Education is indispensable for the achievement of all the development goals and is at the focal point of the progressive milestones for students.

Every student has a gigantic capability that needs to be appropriately nurtured until it generates incredible results. When this capability is not steered in a relevant manner, it can be detrimental to the holistic development of the student. Hence, education is the prerequisite for exploring and steering the potential of students as they grow towards personal career development which is regarded as the epitome of an individual`s life.

In the total learning process, students get to reach out to other students and learn from them as well. This helps in developing students more than just being able to get good grades in exams. Building and nurturing relationships is the key element in society. Education offers a robust and unbelievable tower of strength upon which an individual`s personality and career is fostered at length.  

The present generation is faced with immeasurable challenges. Therefore, education must offer the right framework towards personal growth and development by guiding the path towards critical thinking and practical approach to situations in real life. Education should unlock a student`s thought process and put them ahead of competition. It ought to enlighten diverse career domains that a student may not know in the beginning and eventually perfect his/her performance and empower students to educate others in their field of specialization.

Schools and colleges impart skills and knowledge that students need to live in the real world. In addition, schools ought to provide fundamental behavioural skills viz effective communication, interpersonal skills, leadership skills and overall personality development. A school is like a small society, where students and teachers play different roles and work collectively as passionate and committed team players which is vital and smoothens the process of students to acclimatize faster and better to the real world. 

Academic assessment provides teachers with insights on the ability of a student to perform in various subjects and facilitates formulation of appropriate strategies to address below average performance. Teachers should give additional attention to below average students and identify whether the reason for poor test scores correlates to the undermentioned:

  • Intellectual abilities: If, intellectual abilities are the cause of below average test scores, then the teacher can adopt strategies that mitigate effects of slow learning and poor memory. During classroom sessions, active engagement of students is mandatory to ensure understanding of the topic of learning. Active engagement encompasses direct questions during classroom sessions, assignments to ensure that students apply concepts learnt in the classroom and follow-ups on homework. The teacher must engage top scorers in assisting below average performers in various classroom activities. On the other hand, recognizing students with exemplary performance is imperative.
  • Inefficient teaching skills: The methods of teaching should be evaluated and their inhibitory effects on the entire learning process should be determined or else it will impede the delivery of learning content.
  • External factors: These may include family, cultural background, behavioural factors, and other social factors, which interfere with a student’s ability to concentrate on schoolwork. Sessions in which teachers and students interact at a personal level may help to highlight factors affecting a student and facilitate a relevant course of action.

Educational institutions must teach students the rudimentary skills along with experiential learning to start their adult life. Subsequently, everything else hinges on students themselves assuming that learning is an ongoing process and a basic instinct possessed by all individuals. Self-discipline is crucial for self-development; hence, students must ingrain into their mindsets and habits that self-discipline is the bridge between goals and achievements. Nevertheless, teachers must create a supportive and accommodative environment that encourages students to persevere in their quest for academic fulfillment and thus promote a rational and resilient society.
